Riviera del Sol is an urbanised area located between
Calahonda and
La Cala de
Mijas on the eastern side of
Marbella. It is a central base which allows access
to Marbella,
Fuengirola and
Cabopino, all conveniently within a 10 minute
journey.
Main Tourist Attractions
As golf is a prominent feature of the whole of Marbella, there are golfing
facilities located in the Riviera del Sol district. Miraflores golf course is
situated in the heart of the area; Cabopino and Calahonda courses are only a
short trip away. The beach is within walking distance and offers tourists the
chance to laze in the sun or take part in watersports including jet skiing,
windsurfing and sailing. Sporting facilities such as tennis are also available
in Riviera del Sol. The family can enjoy nearby attractions including Mijas
water park, a sea life centre in
Benalmadena and Funny Beach in the heart of
Marbella. During July you can also witness the festival of La Virgen de Carmen
which is celebrated in Marbella, Benalmadena and
Estepona.
Shopping Opportunities
The area is a great place for those who love to shop. The Riviera Plaza is a
commercial centre with many outlets providing items such as clothing, perfume,
hardware, souvenirs, toys sunglasses and confectionery. It also has a “British”
supermarket for those who miss the little things from home. The Las Terrazas
complex also has a few shops including a hardware bazaar. If your thirst for
shopping is still not quenched you can take the short journey to Marbella’s
Golden Mile and treat yourself to items such as designer clothing, handbags,
shoes, jewellery, watches and electrical goods.
Eating out and Nightlife
A myriad of cafés, bars and restaurants are scattered through the Riviera del
Sol urbanisation. Several bars and cafés can be found in the Riviera Plaza and
Las Terrazas centres. As well as the authentic Spanish dishes; such as Tapas,
paella and chicken, most establishments cater for international tastes too.
There are many British visitors to the Riviera del Sol and so it is easy to find
a menu that includes dishes such as an All Day Breakfast or a Sunday Roast.
Riviera del Sol does not have any nightclubs or discos but a lot of the bars and
restaurants provide live entertainment and are open until the early hours. If
you really have the urge to dance into the next day, then nightclubs and discos
can be found in Marbella and Puerto Banus.
