Fuengirola is a popular and buzzing resort in the Costa del Sol, in Spain. This
is a favourite holiday destination for British and Spanish people alike. It is a
bustling area with high-rise developments and caters for all types of groups,
families and couples in particular. In fact, it is the third largest resort in
the Costa del Sol. The town has come a long way from the start of the 1960’s
when it was a small fishing village with a population of just under nine
thousand people.
Main Tourist Attractions
The main attraction of Fuengirola is its wide expanse of sandy beaches. As well
as taking a well earned rest, there are a variety of watersports including
diving, sailing, jet skiing and fishing. There is also a waterpark for the
children to enjoy. Fuengirola is a perfect location for animal lovers; as well
as its own zoo that houses over one hundred and forty species of animals, keen
horse riders can take a trek or lesson at the nearby ranch. For history buffs,
Fuengirola offers Solhail Castle, which is a magnificently preserved 12th
century construction. Golfers will not be disappointed with the range of courses
available at this resort. As well as this there are a number of sporting
facilities and gyms. The shopping centre also houses a cinema.
Shopping Opportunities
As a popular resort, Fuengirola is filled to the brim with shopping
opportunities. The town centre is reserved for the more traditional boutiques
and shops for buying that authentic Spanish souvenir and arts and crafts. There
is also the Miramar Shopping Centre which has a wide variety of shops selling
perfumes, designer clothing, electrical goods and hardware. There are a number
of charity shops in the town as well as the opportunity to pick up a bargain at
one of the markets. Tuesday and Saturday morning markets offer goods such as
bric-a-brac, furniture, antiques and second-hand clothing. A vibrant and
enjoyable market is also held every Sunday offering items such as jewellery,
local pottery and novelty items.
Eating out and Nightlife
Being one of the largest tourist destinations in the Cost del Sol, Fuengirola
has no shortage of cafés, bars and restaurants to choose from. As well as the
traditional Spanish dishes such as paella and tapas, you can dine on British,
