The community of Benamara is situated between
San Pedro de Alcantara and
Estepona. Situated on the beach it is ideally located to enjoy some peace
and quiet, but close enough to enjoy the major attractions that the surrounding
area has to offer. Most of the property contained within this urbanised area is
comprised of detached villas; the surroundings are luxurious and the inhabitants
are very accommodating to tourists and visitors.
Main Tourist Attractions
Benamara has a lot of activities for the visitor to enjoy. Several large golf
courses are within walking distance and there are sporting facilities to enjoy
tennis, swimming and badminton. The beach is one of the biggest draws and
visitors can experience some water sports such as jet skiing and windsurfing.
The short journey to San Pedro will allow history enthusiasts to enjoy a 6th
century basilica and ruins of a 3rd century Roman bath house. Estepona offers
visitors the chance to take in the traditional Spanish bullring. It has four
museums attached to it if you do not fancy watching bullfights. There are also
the ruins of Castillo de San Luis to explore and Selwo Wildlife Park with an
abundance of exotic animals.
Puerto Banus, which is 5 minutes away by car, offers a multiplex cinema and
a marine observatory.
Shopping Opportunities
The area has a few shops and supermarkets within walking distance and provides
visitors with the essentials for their holiday. Nearby Estepona offers a large
range of shops and boutiques in its two distinct shopping areas, the Calle
Terraza and the Calle real. Here you find a myriad of clothing, shoes, pottery,
jewellery, souvenirs, furniture and electrical goods. There is also a market
held at the marina in Estepona on a Sunday so you can practice your haggling
skills. Puerto Banus has a shopping centre and offers a line of fashionable
boutiques alongside its huge marina. There is also a street market held in this
area every Saturday. Shopaholics will love the wealth of retail opportunities on
their Benamara doorstep.
Eating out and Nightlife
The area has several cafés and restaurants where guests can enjoy a range of
traditional Mediterranean cuisine. Tapas and staple Spanish dishes such as
chicken and paella are available, alongside some refreshing local beers and
wines. There are several bars and restaurants located in nearby Estepona,
especially around the marina area, which cater for those who wish to have
favoured international cuisine. San Pedro also has a small selection of
restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from.
The nightlife in Benamara is quiet but those who want to stay awake until the
early hours can hop over to Estepona. It has discos and nightclubs located next
to the marina. If you have plenty cash to splash, take the short trip to Puerto
Banus and enjoy the casino, which offers live entertainment during the months of
summer.
