Benalmadena Pueblo is the original part of the three-sectioned resort of
Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol. It sits at the foot of some stunning mountains
and has the traditional style of a typical Spanish village. You can enjoy
walking down the whitewashed cobbles and admire the window boxes hanging over
into the narrow streets. As Benalmadena is 280 metres above sea level it is
possible to see the coast from many streets in the heart of the village. Many
Spaniards use this part of Benalmadena as a base for their holiday.
Main Tourist Attractions
As well as the opportunity to take in the style of a typical Andalucian village,
Benalmadena Pueblo houses various archaeological sites and museums where
visitors can learn all about the previous inhabitants of the village from
Phoenicians to Moors. One of the best attractions in this area is the Castillo
de Colomares, which is an outlook tower showcasing architecture spanning five
centuries, which gives it a unique look. Also worth a visit is the Buddhist
temple, which offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. If you are looking
for a quiet place to stroll around the streets and soak up the Spanish charm,
then the Benalmadena Pueblo area is ideal.
Shopping Opportunities
As Benalmadena Pueblo retains its rustic Spanish charm there is not a vast
amount of shops to be found in this area. There are several shops where you can
by traditional Spanish souvenirs; most of the other shops cater for the local
inhabitants so you may find some authentic Spanish delights to take home with
you from your trip. There is a local market held in the village, usually on
Friday of every week. To have access to the larger shops you can head to
Arroyo
de la Miel or the Puerto Marina shopping centre in Benalmadena Costa.
Eating out and Nightlife
Benalmadena Pueblo has a wealth of bars and cafés to choose from, though not as
many as other parts of Benalmadena. An overload of eateries and bars would spoil
this tranquil area. You will find traditional cuisine in the form of Tapas in
many of the bars; if you are looking for international cuisine you will need to
head out of this area.
The nightlife in Benalmadena Pueblo is tranquil and serene- there are no
nightclubs and discos here! If your idea of a perfect evening out involves a
stroll, a view, some fine wine and a place to sit and talk, then Benalmadena
Pueblo is your ideal choice. There are some fiestas held in the village
throughout the year which add a bit of vibrancy to this otherwise peaceful
setting.
